7、cytoproducee1ectricityinasustainab1eway1.Butanyenergyp1anwhichinvo1veschangestothee1ectrica1infrastructureanditspub1icpo1icywou1drequireawe11trainedworkforcewithspecia1know1edgeintraditiona1powersystems,powere1ectronicstopo1ogies,andavai1ab1etypesofrenewab1eenergysources.Foranycountry,tohaveawe11tra

10、ganactive1earningprocess2.Aninterestingstrategyhavebeendeve1opingatUniversityofPuertoRicoinMayaguez(UPRMs)ECEDepartmenttohaveawe11trainedengineeringforcewithafocusonrenewab1eenergyanditsre1atedaspects,specifica11ybytheMathematica1Mode1ingandContro1ofRenewab1eEnergyfortheAdvanceintheTechno1ogyandEduc
11、ation(MimissCREATE)ResearchTeam1eadbyDr.EduardoI.Ortiz-Rivera.Theintegrationoftheoretica1courseswithhandson1aboratoryexperiencespecifica11yinpowere1ectronicsandrenewab1eenergyapp1icationshasbeenthemainfoca1pointfortheMin2CREATEResearchTeam3.Themainobjectiveofthisstrategyisessentia11ytopreparethebest
12、engineeringworkforcetosatisfytherequiredenergyneedsofacountryoraregionwithoutsacrificeitsfuturesustainabi1ity.Thepresented1aboratoryexperienceshaveapotentia1toreachIOOstudentsayearinPowerE1ectronicsbasicundergraduatecourse,60undergraduatestudentsinadvancecoursesinadditiontothosedoingundergraduateres
13、earch.Thisexperiencehaveatremendousimpactinthe1argeamountofE1ectrica1Engineeringstudentsthatgraduateeveryyearfromconcentrationsre1atedtopowere1ectronics(aroundIOOstudentsperyear)atUPRM.AtUPRM,theMingCREATEResearchTeamhasbeenpreparingECEstudentsintheareasofrenewab1eenergyandpowere1ectronicsforpowersy
14、stemapp1icationsbasedonthegeographica1rea1ityofPuertoRico.Toobtainthetheoretica1expertise,theECEstudentsinterestedintheseareas,arerequiredtotakeaseriesofcourseswithfocusonrenewab1eenergyandpowere1ectronics.Figure1i11ustratetherequiredECEcoursesfortheunder1eve1.Eachcourseisdesignedwiththefundamenta1k
