4、n recent years, newalternatives in higher education have been explored, on a balancedbasis. Our faculty traditionally remains teaching with conservativemethods; therefore, strategies ibr incorporating informatics, virtualeducation and in general, electronics are vital in our academicenvironment. Our
5、 electronic medical education group, E3, isconstituted by faculty, undergraduate and graduate students.E3 was designed to provide the urgent need to develop an appropriatescenario for a group of faculty and students who will provide theschool with clear cut policies and strategies, to establish a pe
6、nanenland dynamic program of ICT locally, institutionally and regionally.The project, enveloped in the objectives of E3 includes: ElectronicAcademic Contents (EC), Virtual Education Project (VEP) andElectronic Clinical Record (ECR).We will improve and increase, by the end of 2003, electronic medical

8、and teachers to realize thatinformatics are vital in the construction of the medical doctor 1. Inthe aim of providing politics, tools, and planning of ICT facilities inour Medical School and profiting from the current efforts on this issue,(EAC) led by one of the authors (AI) E3 was created.There ha
9、ve been sporadic efforts 2 in our country to approach the useof ICT in higher education. Unfortunately the general trend 3 is stillin germinal status.To date, the most common infbatics tools currently in use are virtuallibraries, general Medical websites, Medical School websites andmultimedia resour
10、ces. In general, our students do not have an effectiveapproach to electronic facilities in situ or at home, in contrast withmost of American and European medical programs 4.We believe that ICT in medical education is not only a took but a goal,in order to construct a better individual, a better doct
11、or, aware of thecurrent need to have access to better and more information viaelectronic way.Our University will be 350 years old this year. It is known at the cradleof the Republic since at Rosario University is were independence ofthe country started. Our motto, unova et vetera or the new and theo
12、ld“ impulses awareness of the advances in academics be themformative or in research.ICT embraces both universes, having always as common denominatortutorial and mentorial education.Currently our School has a number of infbnatic tools that haveprogressively been used by students and teachers. Our mai
13、n objectiveis to boost the use of electronic tools initially in undergraduate andthen in graduate medical programs radiated to the University and thento the academic community locally and regionally To date wc have aversatile website (www.urosario.edu.co) link to http:/mcdicina.rosario.edu.co which
14、contains the Medical Schoos generalinformation.Our medical library offers access to electronic journals through threesupplying companies. Access is privileged to our students, faculty andalumni who have individual passwords.E3 was designed to provide the urgent need to develop an appropriatescenario
15、 for a group of faculty and students who will provide theschool with clear cut policies and strategies to establish a permanentand dynamic program of ICT.New projects in E3 are in progress and their objective is to developstrategies that will help medical students and physicians to handlecurrent biomedical information in the benefit of patients, themselvesand the community via ICT. This project enveloped in the objectives ofE3 includes: Electronic Academic Contents (EAC) Virtual Education Project (VEP) Electronic Clinical Record (ECR)Electronic medical contents (EAC) was designed by one of
