The fossil is identified as the cuticle of a single leg segment (left. femur)

13、 of a scorpion (Arachnida:Scorpiones), without, any fnlher taxonomic placement The anatomical details of the figment are given, along withecological considerations. It is the ft fossil scorpion record from RussiaThis fossil is a cuticle of an entire left leg segment(Fig 2), most likely a femur, with

14、 elaborate articulatorystructures at both ends Fig. 3 shows the basal, trchanterfemur joint area (ventral view). After comparingthis leg segment with several Recent scorpion legs webelieve it is most likely a fem ur for the foUowing rca-IntroductionThe present note addresses a unique fossil found in

15、Lower Carboniferous deposits of the Moscow Coal Ba-sin (Fig 1). This fragment is identified as the cuticle of asingle leg segment of a scorpion (Arachnida: Scorpio-nes), and is the first fossil scorpion from RussiaLocality and HorizonThe material comes from the northwest flank of theMoscow Coal Basin (Malinovcts quarry of the JointStock Company uBorovichskii Refractory Works, 25km NW of the town of Borovichi, Novgorod Region,Russia).
